How to Choose the Right Fabric for Pakistan’s Weather
The right fabric makes the difference between an outfit you enjoy and one you cannot wait to take off. Pakistan covers humid coasts, hot plains and cold northern winters, so choose with your local weather in mind.
Hot and humid: Karachi and Hyderabad
Choose light, breathable fabrics such as lawn and fine cotton. Light and mid-tone colours reflect heat, and a relaxed cut lets air move.
Hot and dry: Lahore, Multan and the Punjab plains
Breathable cotton and lawn work well. Avoid very synthetic, heavy fabrics in peak summer, as they trap heat.
Mild seasons: spring and autumn
This is the time for slightly heavier cottons, and for layering a light dupatta or shawl.
Cold winters: Islamabad and the north
Look for thicker fabrics such as khaddar and other warm, textured winter cloths. Deeper colours also look rich in winter.
Monsoon
Pick fabrics that dry quickly and do not cling. Test colour-fastness, since dyes can run when fabric gets wet.
A simple rule
- Hot weather: light, breathable, loose.
- Cool weather: thicker, textured, layered.
- Always read the fabric name in the product description.
