Care Tips
How to Care for and Wash Unstitched Dresses
Good care keeps colours bright and fabric soft. These habits work for most cotton and lawn suits. Always follow any care label that comes with your fabric, because it is the best guide for that particular cloth.
Before stitching: test a small piece
Cut a small offcut and wash it. If it shrinks or the colour runs, you will know before the tailor starts. Some people pre-wash the whole fabric before cutting.
Washing
Separate colours
Wash new, dark and bright prints separately for the first few washes.
Use cool water and mild detergent
Cool water is gentler on dyes. Avoid strong bleach.
Turn the outfit inside out
This protects the printed surface and any embellishments.
Do not wring hard
Press out water gently instead of twisting.
Drying
Dry in the shade. Strong direct sun can fade deep colours over time.
Ironing
Iron on the reverse side, using a heat setting suited to the fabric. Use a lower setting for delicate fabrics.
Delicate fabrics
Chiffon, organza and silk are often better hand-washed gently or dry-cleaned. Check the care instructions.
Storage
Store clean and fully dry, folded or hung. Keep away from damp corners.
